Family Missions Company (FMC) is a Catholic apostolate of lay singles and families engaged in foreign missionary evengelism and service to the poor. Our work has its roots in the missionary lives of Jesus and His Apostles. Today FMC has trained and sent out lay missionaries who have served in Mexico, Ecuador, the Caribbean, the Philippines, Thailand, India, Spain, Ghana and other countries around the world. We live and preach the Gospel. We work to assist the poor in any way we can.
Pope John Paul II, in his encyclical Mission of the Redeemer, says that “Missionary activity renews the Church, revitilizes faith and Christian identity, and offers fresh enthusiasm and new incentive. Faith is strengthened when it is given to others!” We believe you can discover this fresh enthusiasm for the faith through mission life. Every Christian is a missionary by virture of baptism, and it has never been more urgent that we live out that call!. “The harvest is plenty and the laborers are few” (Lk 10:2). We need thousands of missionaries “yesterday”. The need is urgent and the call is now!
Over the years we’ve received life changing reports from those who have experienced mission with us, both full-time and short-term. Our missionary organization draws upon the more than thirty years of pioneering mission life lived by the Summers family and builds on the ongoing relationships between FMC missionaries and the local Churches where they serve. Our missionary charism centers around evangelization and service to the poor. We go out to share the Good News with people through Christian witness and giving testimonies.
This Summer 2012, Family Missions Company will be hosting their second annual SSME, Summer School of Missionary Evangelization program. SSME will afford participants the chance to join full-time missionaries for a month-long mission immersion program in the Philippines learning about the Church’s mission while living it out!
Students will enjoy an intense life of daily community and personal prayer, fellowship, service in various apostolates and Christian formation through study. The curriculum will include an in-depth study of the Book of Acts, excerpts from the Documents of Vatican II related to evangelization, Pope John Paul II’s encyclical Mission of the Redeemer, and core teachings from FMC’s Sí Señor program designed for forming FMC’s own full-time missionaries. Study will also include various guest speakers and a teaching workshop which will equip the missionaries in methods of evangelism.
Along with study, SSME participants will have the opportunity to engage in the apostolate. Each day attendants will spend time in daily personal and community prayer. All will work in a number of corporal and spiritual services, including visiting the elderly, praying with the sick/hospitalized, putting on a youth Bible Camp, working at a daycare/preschool, participating with the local youth group, working alongside the local Church in their ministries, feeding the hungry, working with at-risk youth, street preaching, sharing testimonies and giving talks. We are very excited about the profound opportunities for growth as we encounter Jesus in the “least” of our brothers and sisters.
There will also be occasional opportunities to enjoy the majestic beauty of the Philippines. Several days of prayer, reflection and fun will be spent at local beaches, and excursions to other beautiful sites on the island will be planned. All will be able to delight in holy fellowship and God’s marvelous creation.
If you feel you are looking for more than a one-week trip and want to journey deeper into the Church’s mission, then our SSME program is designed for you. Consider spending a month with us this summer, growing in leadership, the ability to evangelize and learning how to apply your missionary experience to everyday life!!!
